Great question, but there still needs to be a little more detail.
What type of home business do you want to start? (internet or work from home)
How much are you willing to invest? (some options are free and others cost thousands, where are you)
How much do you want to make? (adwords could make you a few dollars a day whereas data entry from a legitimate source could be just like a 9-5)
How much time do you want to invest? (what are your motives for wanting to start the business? Consider those when you answer this)
And there are so many other questions like this that you should consider but here are a few tips from around the globe.
Determine why you want to have a home based business. Different dreams would require different business.
Determine what you expect to get from your home based business. Consider time spent, money, earned, relaxation, product you love, etc
Determine if you require training. Some businesses are simple, like owning a website and using adwords but others require a lot of work, training and skills, like being a massage therapist.
If you have family, determine how they will react to your working at home. Some are very supportive while others are not.
Create a business plan. It is ok to think you have a great plan, but put it on paper and then go over it. Consider all the details that you can and then talk to people in that business and ask more questions. After you start and realize what you missed, edit your original plan to make it more accurate.
